Painting Kitchen Cabinets From Habitat Restore

Before

Everyone knows that the kitchen is the heart of the home. The kitchen we inherited was tired and not very functional. The electrical panel was also exposed which we didn’t like for the aesthetics and safety. The goal of the renovation was to make the space more functional and gain additional storage space.

Planning

We bought cabinets and a stove second hand at the Habitat for Humanity Restore. If you have one in your community, I recommend checking it out. They have all kinds of housewares donated and then sold to benefit recipients of Habitat homes.

The cabinets sat in the kitchen area for nearly a year before we were able to install them. It took a little finagling to get them to fit and John ended up building two boxes to fit the smaller sizes on each end.

We decided to paint the cabinets to lighten them up. Following This Old House’s Mauro’s instructions, we prepped and painted the cabinets. The final coat on the exterior we used a paint sprayer.
