About us.
Our home renovation obsession is a sickness.
We’re John and Elaine. And we both love houses and home renovations. During our honeymoon, we purchased our first house – a beautiful, century-old, village Victorian converted into a two-family. We spent hours watching HGTV and This Old House, with Home Depot’s DIY book as our Bible.
Once the major renovations were over, John and a buddy decided to become licensed contractors and put their skills to use. While the business has long been closed, we can’t help but put our own stamp on each house we own.
It wasn’t until we bought a lake house in New Hampshire and John’s parents made us swear that we wouldn’t sell it when the renovations were finished, that we thought we might have a bit of a sickness.
So this is Home Sick, a blog about our home renovation adventures, some may say obsession. We want to share our tips and tricks, how tos and best products with other DIY weekend warriors.
Houses
John and Elaine have owned six homes in the last 25 years and have done major renovations on each one of them. Three were multi-families, which were also rental properties.
Village Victorian
A century-old, three-story home that was converted into a two-family. We saw the potential to be able to bring back this beautiful village Victorian to its former glory.
Center Entrance Colonial
The youngest house we bought, a 10-year old Colonial on a two acre lot. We found a way to put our stamp on it, adding the tiered walkway and hardwood floors.
Cozy Duplex
Two-bedroom duplex with a great yard. Improvements included bathroom and kitchen facelifts, installing hardwood in the living rooms, and finishing the basements.
Oversized Cape
Our current home. A traditional cape with an addition and garage. We’ve renovated just about every space.
Chalet Lake House
We purchased this property in 2021 and have been tackling a full home renovation. Check out the blog to follow along with the progress.
