Under Cabinet Lighting Is a Game Changer
Want to level-up your kitchen? Add under cabinet lighting.
After our dishwasher broke and we were hand washing dishes for over a month in the middle of winter, I was dismayed at how dark the corner with my sink was. I decided to install under cabinet lighting, but I didn’t want to have to have John have to do electrical work.
I found an accent light kit on Amazon that I thought would work. It came with six puck lights and cords to link them together and has an on/off a switch. It also came with a remote control which we didn’t really use. For under $50, I was able to transform the look of our kitchen.
The light pucks can be screwed in or come with an adhesive. I just used the adhesive. For the smaller cabinets, I centered the lights. The corner cabinet and wider cabinet needed two lights to create even light. Since the corner cabinet is not as long, I positioned the pucks closer to the end of the cabinet so they are hidden. The pucks daisy chain together to the electric pack.
Small, clear 3M Command Hooks are used to keep the cords under the cabinets hidden. I initially used a plastic channel to hide the cord along the walls, which works fine under the cabinets, but when we used the oven for an extended period of time, it stopped sticking and sagged.
John upgraded to a metal channel, drilled into the tile backspace, so now the electric cord is protected.
What do you think of the change?
